So, I finally finished my Hong Kong page! I went there during winter break and took these great pics. I was only in Hong Kong from the 12-13 of Jan, 2001. but I had a lot of sight-seeing done. I stayed at Yau Ma Tei (YMCA). A friend of a friend of a friend recomended this place to me. place (very nice to have connections, heheh?!) I took this picture from behind the hotel I stayed at.

I wandered around through Kowloon for a couple of hours and then lost my way when heading back to the hotel. Luckily, there were plenty of English speaking policemen. At first I went to the a policeman to ask directions back to the Yau Ma Tei, but then I decided to ask him to call the person who set me the deal for the hotel rate. (I kept the phone number with me just in case). I gave the policeman the number to call, but I could not recall the name of my friend's friend's friend who set up the accomodation for me! The policeman asked me if I ever met this "friend", and I replied that I hadn't. Then he asked me "do you even have any idea what your "friend" looks like?", and once again, my reply was no. After asking me a few more questions, I started to wonder why he wanted to know so much. He was quiet for a while and had the biggest smile on his face... Then he said "You met this guy from ICQ (internet) didn't you!"
I got a good laugh from the idea of it, especially since so many people DO meet after getting acquainted online. But the answer was no
I don't remember the name of the policeman who helped me settle my business, but, if by some chance you are reading this, Thanks!
A lot of the young people living in Hong Kong had bleached hair... very interesting. They also wore the most current fashions available, I guess because its a major city.? I recall a lady who had on platform knee-high boots covered with pastel blue faux fur.
I kinda'found it funny that while I walked down the streets of Kowloon, there were several identical stores that were just minutes apart from each other, like the 7 Elevens. I would walk into one, and then after I leave and walk down for a few mins. I would come across another!
I went a little crazy with the chocolates while I was there,... I am so weak! I can't control myself around chocolate... Those of you who know about Kinder Chocolates, can we say HAPPY HIPPOS!? mmm!
For dinner, the local workers would gather to the little inexpensive restaurants to have a meal or socialize. Each of the little restaurants had a specialty, like fried fish that were shaped into balls, rice porridge, dumplings, soups and noodles, and the list goes on!
There were plenty of foreigners in Hong Kong,. A lot from India and Germany, but the local chidlren could not get enough!

Some children in a school bus screamed out "HELLO!" to me while I was walking. When I greeted them back, they got a kick out of it and started giggling.. hmm..... ^_^

On the 13th of January 2000, I took the Star Ferry to get to Hong Kong Island. This lego-panda was at the star ferry terminal, and i thought it was cute enough to take a pic.

And here's a photo taken on the ferry

This is Hong Kong City (opposite of Kowloon)

This picture is of Hong Kong City looking at it from Kowloon. Its taken in the Summer of the same year.. in July, if I recall correctly. (i went to Hong Kong for a second time that year, I stayed for a week) Many post cards of Hong Kong has this view.

Here's a map of the area that I stayed at.
